I'm just hoping there's some setting I haven't thought of in Battery to optimize the use of computer resources to boost the number of voices.

Now, when I use other sample-playback software (like the EXS24 sampler in Logic Pro), I can get more simultaneous voices.
The snares have about 7 layers, but most other cells have no more than 4 layers. I don't have very many layers in each cell. I've also tried having fewer cells filled with samples in my Battery kit, but it doesn't seem to matter much either. I've tried switching between Standard, Vintage, and DFD settings (if that's what determines how it handles sample playback), but it doesn't seem to make a difference. So, I'm not sure whether Battery is using memory or trying to get the samples from the disk, but either way, it's not really working. I've got 16 GB of RAM and a solid-state drive.

There start to be significant delays between what I'm hitting and the sound, or some sounds just don't trigger. But when I raise it much higher than that, the software starts having problems keeping up with the playing. So, I'm assuming the issue is the number of voices. In other words, if I play a long roll on the snare drum, then play some fast notes on a low tom, the low tom notes will start to cut off before the end of the sample.
The problem I'm having is that whenever I play a bunch of notes in a row, some of the samples start cutting each other off. I'm using Battery 4 with some custom kits-my own sampled version of my acoustic drum set.
